De wetenschappers hadden een metastudie gedaan van de gedragingen van het DNA van GM voeding en diervoeders in mens en dier. Uit de metastudie blijkt dat het DNA van GM producten zowel de verwerking tot voedingsmiddel als de verteringsprocessen in ons maag/darmkanaal kan overleven. Argentina denies any responsibility in the GMO rapeseed case

“Thus, we reject statements suggesting that the GMO contamination could be originated in Argentina, (..) where no source of possible contamination exists”, the press release adds. Anyway, the INASE decided to suspend new rapeseed exports until this incident is clarified.

Argentinië ontkent elke verantwoordelijkheid in de gentech koolzaad zaak.

Vertaling: “Dus, wij ontkennen verklaringen die suggereren dat de gentech besmetting uit Argentinië zou komen, (…) waar geen bron van een mogelijke besmetting bestaat”. Dit voegt het persbericht toe. Hoe dan ook, de INASE (the Seeds National Institute ) besloot om export van nieuw koolzaad op te schorten totdat dit incident is verhelderd.

Ons commentaar: INASE had het gentechvrije koolzaad gecontroleerd op besmetting voordat dit werd geëxporteerd. De besmetting (een gentech koolzaadsoort die in Canada wordt geteeld) moet dus elders gebeurd zijn, de grote vraag is hoe, waar door wie en als het opzettelijk is gebeurd waarom?

Hier is weer een klassieker: opnieuw goedgekeurd voor de EU markt: Koolzaad T45, terwijl het niet meer verbouwd wordt, geef je mening!

Dit gentech koolzaad wordt sinds 2005 niet meer verbouwd maar wordt soms nog wel teruggevonden in gewoon koolzaad. Wij denken het volgende: Door het goed te keuren voor de EU markt voor wat betreft voedsel en veevoer voorkomt men een claim als het toch in voedsel wordt aangetroffen.

COGEM: “The requested authorisation covers import and processing of T45 resulting from the commercialisation of T45 in other countries until 2005 (adventitious presence).
COGEM is of the opinion that the adventitious (=toevallig) presence of T45 in commodity rapeseed poses a negligible risk to the environment in the Netherlands.

We gingen eerder voor een hoorzitting naar het toenmalige ministerie van VROM voor een soortgelijke koolzaadtoelating nl. de T73. Greenpeace had geen bezwaar gemaakt, dat vonden wij erg vreemd. De voorzitter Mr. Span zei dat we voor steun maar naar het Europees Parlement moesten gaan, dat hadden we gedaan, maar die zeiden dat we maar bij de Tweede Kamer moesten aanbellen. Daar zeiden ze dat we maar naar het EP moesten gaan…zucht.

Franse en Duitse boeren vernietigen koolzaadgewassen nadat er gentech gevonden is in zaad van Bayer

6-02-2019, Reuters, Sybille de La Hamaide: Bayer zorgde voor een terugroepactie maar er was al zaad gezaaid op ongeveer 8.000 ha in Frankrijk en op 2.500 tot 3.000 ha in Duitsland, dit zaad zal weer verwijderd worden zei Bayer.

COGEM vindt alles verwaarloosbaar klein

Een voormalig lid van het EFSA GMO panel, Jean-Michel Wal, heeft gezegd dat een onderzoek naar Bt gewassen suggereert dat Bt  allergische reacties kunnen veroorzaken en dat die studie solide wetenschappelijke  gegronde resultaten bevat. Link (Eng.)
A former member of the European Food Safety Authority’s (EFSA’s) GMO panel, Jean-Michel Wal, has said that a study suggesting that GM Bt crops could be allergenic has “solid scientifically grounded results”, according to a report in EU Food Policy.[1]  But the Dutch COGEM has okayed a  recent renewal of a Bt maize.

De COGEM heeft de import van een Bt mais echter weer goedgekeurd. Zij beoordeelt de voedselveiligheid echter niet. De vraag is wie dat dan wel doet. “Concluderend acht de COGEM de risico’s van import en verwerking van maïslijn Bt11 voor mens en milieu verwaarloosbaar klein.” Ook al gaat het in dit geval om Cry1Ab,daar is ook onderzoek naar gedaan en dat stemt niet vrolijk.

Al in 2011:” Scientists from the University of Sherbrooke, Canada, have detected the insecticidal protein, Cry1Ab, circulating in the blood of pregnant as well as non-pregnant women.”  Paper. Source: India Today.

Please support collective efforts to prevent the release of a new type of GMO in South Africa. Pioneer Hi-Bred RSA (Pty) (DuPont) has applied for a permit to grow the GM maize event DP-056113-9 in open field trials. This GMO makes use of new and risky RNA interference (gene silencing) technology. This GM maize event is being developed as part of the Seed Production Technology for Africa (SPTA) project to provide maize parent lines to seed breeders with sterile pollen for the mass production of hybrid maize to supply smallholder farmers.

Biowatch is concerned about this application for a number of reasons contained in our objection here.
